The Gardens


In the gardens there are amongst others:
  • an arboretum with appr. 900 broad-leafed tree and conifer species
  • an alpine garden with appr. 2,500 species from the colline to alpine belts of both low and high mountain ranges,
  • a system garden, which has been arranged according to new scientific insights,
  • sections for forest, steppe, swamp, heath, and pond vegetation,
  • an iris and geophyte garden with several plants flowering in early spring,
  • a garden for crop and medicinal plant species,
  • a knoll housing many plants from the species-rich calcareous flora of the surroundings of Jena
  • rhododendron, rose, and dahlia gardens.
