Loans and visits by scientists

Loans and scans of herbarium specimens are generally made to/for national or international botanical institutions on written request via regular mail or email. Email requests for vascular plant specimens should be sent to Jochen Müller, those for cryptogam specimens to Hans-Joachim Zündorf. Material of the Weigel collection, which also includes our Thunberg material, is not sent on loan.

All herbarium material will be sent permanently mounted on herbarium sheets. Since the majority of our holdings is still unmounted, a period of several weeks for mounting should be taken into account.

Loan period is generally one year and may be extended upon written request.

Borrowed material has to be treated carefully and protected against injuries.

All specimens should be annotated by special annotation labels. Please do not write on the original labels and the herbarium sheets.

No portion or part of the specimens should be removed from the herbarium sheets without prior permission. Preparations and photographs should be added to the herbarium sheets.

Return shipments have to be sent in the same or a similar packing. If the specimens are sent in fascicle wrappers, these must be returned with the specimens. The borrower is responsible for the material until receipt at JE.

Researchers are asked to send a copy or reprint of any publication concerning our material.

Never self-adhesive tape should be used to fasten parts on the herbarium sheets.

Scientific visitors are welcome at JE. To guarantee preparation of the concerned material and the possibility of consultation of our staff, we recommend notification some time before the projected visit.
