About the Project

|
The starting point of this
project is the role that gender played in the social discourse and
practice of Weimar-Jena around 1800. Based on comparative gender
history, which focuses both on men and women, the project challenges
traditional assumptions and arrives at new conclusions. The project
attempts to break through stereotypes of men and women through selected
examples, disclosing spheres of action as well as gender concepts
which existed in spite of the limitations resulting from social
discourse and were furthermore passed on in constantly modified
forms. more >>
