Abstract

Modern administration and modern art share a common interest in order as order. And it is this fact that makes it possible for the conference "The Office in the Studio: The Administration of Modernism" to look for transitions between these two domains that usually seem to be so different. In many respects 20th century art tried to mimic the office and its techniques to prove presence of mind (in the sense Walter Benjamin used the term). Nowadays artists refer to the office in many ways but not anymore with a radical avant-garde gesture but more analytically and with tongue-in-cheek.
