The 3rd IGC Summer School 2004
Stability and Change in Intergroup Relations

June 24-30, 2004, Vierseithof, Luckenwalde (near Berlin)

The Summer School is part of the IGC's study programme and intends to cover the broader perspective of the IGC-research programme, providing participants with a solid orientation concerning the general topic as a whole and the position of their respective dissertation projects in particular.

The summer school consisted of three parallel workshops. After a general introduction of the workshop topic by the teachers, participants have developed research ideas in small groups. These ideas were discussed with in the workshop and presented to the plenum on the final day. In addition there the participants had the opportunity for individual consultation and advising.
The Summer School 2004 took place at the Vierseithof, a historic Prussian Manor House in the city of Luckenwalde some 60 kilometres south of Berlin. Luckenwalde is famous for a couple of outstanding examples of modern architecture, e.g., the Hat Factory (built by Erich Mendelsohn in 1923), the complex of the municipal theatre and the former Volkshochschule (built 1927-30) and the newly altered industrial area around the Vierseithof (now a modern residential area). The wonderful Kunsthalle (former machine hall) served as the location for the summer school plenum.
The landscape is stamped by a colorful mixture of beautiful forests, hidden farming villages with interesting churches, fields and untouched nature reserves. In the 12th century, Flemish settlers named this pine tree region strongly influenced by the ice age Fläming.
