Threats to social identity and problematic
intergroup relations, which prevail in many societies and
which may even be exacerbated by globalisation, immigration,
the internationalisation of many domains of life and tremendous
demographic transformations, pose a challenge to social science. Therefore,
it appears necessary and timely to integrate existing knowledge
and to gain new insights into the causal antecedents and the
mediating processes of intergroup relations. In the current
research group, the issues of intergroup relations and the
problem of intergroup conflict are addressed by a comprehensive
scientific analysis of the processes that underlie the cognitive,
evaluative and behavioural reactions to members of different
groups. In particular, the research group approaches the investigation
of intergroup relations from the perspectives of different
disciplines, including social psychology, developmental psychology,
educational psychology, cognitive psychology, personality
psychology, political science and media science.
